MOVEMENT THAT CELEBRATES EVERY BODY
WEIGHT-INCLUSIVE PILATES
At Rosy Movement, we believe that every body deserves access to joyful, supportive movement without judgment, shame, or focus on weight loss. Our Weight-Inclusive Pilates creates space for all bodies to experience the benefits of movement while feeling genuinely respected, seen, and valued.
WHAT MAKES OUR APPROACH DIFFERENT
TRUE WEIGHT-INCLUSIVE PHILOSOPHY We define weight-inclusive Pilates as tailoring our classes to your unique body without any agenda to change, fix, or focus on your weight. This isn’t about tolerating different bodies—it’s about actively celebrating and accommodating them.
EQUIPMENT DESIGNED FOR COMFORT Our studio features adaptable Pilates apparatus that works for diverse body shapes and sizes. The Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and other equipment are thoughtfully set up with additional props and modifications to ensure comfort and effectiveness for all bodies.
GROUND-FLOOR ACCESSIBILITY Our Collingwood studio is located at ground level with no steps or stairs to navigate, making physical access straightforward for all mobility levels.
MIRROR-FREE ENVIRONMENT We deliberately maintain a mirror-free studio space. This design choice shifts focus from appearance to sensation, allowing you to connect with how movement feels rather than how it looks.
HAES-ALIGNED TEACHING As a Health At Every Size (HAES) aligned studio, we focus on the quality of movement, improved function, and how you feel rather than weight, appearance, or arbitrary metrics of “fitness.”
YOUR SESSION EXPERIENCE
INITIAL CONSULTATION We begin with a thorough conversation to understand your movement history, including any past negative experiences, current comfort levels, and what you hope to gain from Pilates. This forms the foundation of your personalised approach.
SESSION OPTIONS Choose between private sessions for maximum personalisation or semi-private sessions (maximum three participants) in our weight-inclusive group setting.
CONTINUOUS ADAPTATION All movements are continuously adapted to work with your specific body. We focus on making Pilates work for you, not forcing your body to conform to a standardised version of each exercise.
PROGRESSIVE APPROACH Sessions evolve at your pace, building confidence and capability without pressure or arbitrary timelines. Our goal is sustainable, enjoyable movement that enhances your life.
A TRAUMA-INFORMED SPACE
We understand that traditional movement environments can be sources of significant trauma, particularly for people in bigger bodies. Our trauma-informed approach includes:
SAFETY FIRST Physical and emotional safety form the foundation of all sessions. We prioritise creating an environment where you feel secure, respected, and in control of your experience.
CHOICE AND AUTONOMY All exercises are invitations, not commands. You always have the right to modify, skip, or adapt any movement based on what feels right for your body.
CLEAR COMMUNICATION We use inclusive, non-judgmental language that focuses on function rather than appearance. You’ll never hear weight-stigmatising terms or comments about “burning calories” or “getting your body back.”
VALIDATED EXPERIENCE Your lived experience is acknowledged and respected. We recognize that navigating movement spaces as a person in a bigger body often comes with unique challenges and previous negative experiences.
WEIGHT-INCLUSIVE FAQs
-
Health at Every Size is an evidence-based approach that recognises health exists on a continuum across all body sizes. HAES principles focus on sustainable, enjoyable behaviours rather than weight or appearance. Our HAES-aligned classes emphasise how movement feels and functions rather than how it might change your body.
-
Unlike traditional fitness spaces that often centre on appearance or weight loss, our approach prioritises your comfort, dignity, and personal experience. We understand that many people have experienced weight stigma in movement settings and actively work to create a different experience—one built on respect, accommodation, and celebration of all bodies.
-
No. We know mirrors can be incredibly triggering, so we prefer to keep them in the bathroom where they belong. Our priority is to make you feel comfortable and safe, which to us means never having mirrors in the studio.
-
Wear whatever feels comfortable and allows you to move freely. We recommend layers so you can adjust for comfort. All necessary equipment and props are provided at our studio, with extensive modifications available to accommodate different bodies and movement preferences.
-
We separate movement from weight loss, appearance goals, or “fixing” your body. Instead, we focus on function, capability, and how movement can enhance your life. By emphasising joy, autonomy, and personalised approaches, we help rebuild trust between you and your body, creating space for genuine enjoyment of movement.
